Abstract

The importance of RALIS (Wednesday Literacy) lies in its potential to foster a culture of reading among students, addressing the critical issue of low reading interest. This program encourages students to engage with a wide variety of texts every Wednesday, creating a consistent habit that improves their reading skills and comprehension. By incorporating enjoyable and diverse reading materials, RALIS not only makes reading more accessible but also transforms it into an appealing activity. Moreover, the initiative provides a structured yet flexible approach that supports students of varying literacy levels. Through RALIS, schools aim to cultivate a generation of avid readers who are better equipped for academic success and lifelong learning. The program’s implementation has shown promising results in boosting students' enthusiasm for reading. By dedicating a specific day each week to literacy activities, RALIS creates a sense of anticipation and routine that strengthens students' connection with reading. Teachers play a crucial role in guiding and motivating students, curating materials that align with their interests and academic needs. Additionally, peer interactions during literacy discussions foster collaborative learning and encourage students to share insights, thereby enriching their reading experience.RALIS also contributes to the development of critical thinking and analytical skills, as students are encouraged to reflect on and discuss the content they read. This process not only enhances their understanding but also builds confidence in expressing ideas and opinions. Furthermore, the program addresses the growing concern about digital distractions by offering an intentional pause from screen time, redirecting students’ focus toward meaningful, print-based or digital reading activities. The success of RALIS can be attributed to its strategic design and its alignment with broader educational goals. By promoting reading as a pleasurable and rewarding habit, the program helps to bridge gaps in literacy levels, reduce reading anxiety, and instill a lifelong appreciation for knowledge. With continuous support and adaptation to meet students’ evolving interests, RALIS holds significant potential to transform reading attitudes and contribute to holistic education.
