Expanding the English Vocabulary of Sunday School Children at the HKPB Marelan Resort Jeremia Mabar Church

Abstrak

Vocabulary mastery is a crucial component in the English language learning process. Sunday School children need an engaging learning approach so that they can understand, remember, and use new vocabulary more easily. This community service program aimed to improve the English vocabulary comprehension of Sunday School children at the HKPB Marelan Resort Jeremia Mabar Church through interactive activities, including educational games, singing, picture recognition, flashcards, quizzes, and basic conversation practice. The program was implemented through several meetings involving Sunday School children as participants and used a participatory approach that emphasized active engagement in every learning stage. The results showed improvement in children's understanding and mastery of English vocabulary, particularly in recognizing basic words related to numbers, colors, body parts, animals, fruits, family, and objects around them. The children also demonstrated strong enthusiasm, confidence, and active participation during learning activities. Interactive and enjoyable learning methods therefore proved to be an effective alternative for strengthening English vocabulary among children in non-formal religious education settings.
